Loose Faceted Gemstones

Gemstones that are cut with a faceting machine will have small flat windows or surfaces [typically known as facets] That are set at various angles around the gemstones. These facets are used to enhance the beauty of the gemstone but must be cut at the proper angle to reflect the light in the most advantageous way.

Some home hobbyists also have home/custom faceting machines to cut or grind in the facets in the raw gemstones. Care must be taken to make sure the facet is ground at the proper angle or light will not be reflected, instead it will pass through, and the beauty of the stone is not seen. But many artistic people have an enjoyable time determining how and where the facets should be cut in the result can be a beautiful gemstone ready for the decorative setting to set it off perfectly.
